NIH launches Linked Discoveries in PubMed for replication context

On Sep 24, 2026, NIH’s National Library of Medicine released Linked Discoveries, an experimental PubMed tool that maps related publications — including replication studies — around a given article. More than 29 million PubMed publications are represented at launch; NIH frames it as part of a broader agency push on replication and reproducibility in NIH-funded research.

NIH keeps modified peer review through January 2027 council

On Sep 18, 2026, NIH Extramural Nexus said emergency peer-review modifications remain in effect through the January 2027 Advisory Council round (NOT-OD-26-114), citing a record application load currently above 40,000 for that round (prior peak more than 35,000 in May 2025). Roughly 30–35% of applications are discussed in most meetings; the “competitive, not discussed” middle-third designation continues, and community input on related outcome-reporting changes is open through Oct 13, 2026.

NIH seeks comment on draft policy for sharing study results with participants

A Sep 25, 2026 Federal Register notice asks for public input on a draft NIH policy that would require NIH-supported clinical research to share plain-language summary-level study results with participants, unless an NIH-approved exception applies. Comments are due by Oct 26, 2026; if finalized, the policy would apply to competing applications and new clinical research agreements received on or after six months after a final policy is published.
